Branch merger - Inaugural meeting

Wednesday 1st September 2010 at 8:00 pm

The South Wimbledon Club, 8 Russel Road Wimbledon, SW19 1QL

Following the successful ballot of the CWU members in the London South West Thames, Thameswey and Croydon & South London Branches, the CWU Executive have agreed that a merger of the three Branches can take place. The new Branch will be called the South London, Surrey and North Hampshire Branch

The first meeting of the new Branch, where new Branch Officers and Committee Members will be elected will be held on Wednesday 1st September 2010 at 8.00 pm in the South Wimbledon Club, 8 Russel Road, Wimbledon, .

A *Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer/Financial Secretary, Equality Officer, Political Officer**, Youth Officer and 6 other Branch Committee members (at least one of whom must be a Women's officer), will be elected at the meeting.   A constitution for the new Branch and Branch Bye-Laws will also have to be agreed by members.  This is your chance to have a say in who will be setting the direction of the new branch.

All members are invited along, and we expect to have an important guest speaker to help launch the new branch.

Refreshments will be provided free of charge to celebrate the birth of the new Branch.

(*note Three different people must be elected to the Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer/Financial Secretary posts).

(**note All candidates for the post of Political Officer must pay the Political Levy and must be members of the Labour Party).

By Car:

For SatNav users the postcode is SW19 1QL or input "Wimbledon Theatre". Parking is available right next door to the South Wimbledon Club, in "The Broadway" Public Car Park. The Car Park entrance is in Russel Road inbetween Wimbledon Theatre and the South Wimbledon Club.

 

By Rail, London Underground and Tram:

The nearest railway Station is Wimbledon. South West Trains, Southern Railway and First Capital Connect trains serve Wimbledon national rail Station.

Wimbledon Tube Station is served by the District line (via Earls Court).

Wimbledon is also the nearest Tramlink stop (Route number 3).

 

By Bus:

Buses 57, 131, 200, 219, 156, 163, 164, 93, 463, all stop on The Broadway, Wimbledon within a few minutes walk of the South Wimbledon club.

 

By Air:

Heathrow: Take the Tube, Piccadilly line to Earls Court, then change to the District Line service to Wimbledon.

Gatwick: Take a National Rail service to East Croydon, then change to a Tram to Wimbledon (Route number 3)

 

Walk from Wimbledon station:

The South Wimbledon Club is just 5 minutes walk from Wimbledon Station. To get to the Club, leave Wimbledon Station, turn left, and walk past the Centre Court shopping centre down "The Broadway" towards Wimbledon Theatre and CWU HQ. The South Wimbledon Club is at 8 Russell Road, right next door to Wimbledon Theatre.
